As we strive to educate ourselves about how to fulfil our role as stewards (or servants!) of creation, we need to engage our youngest children in this work as well. Why not hold a creation care-themed Vacation Bible School (VBS)?
We are happy to present “Earth Guardians: Growing Up Green!” This Vacation Bible School curriculum is comprised of adaptable games,
snacks, crafts, and service projects centered around daily discussion and teachings of Biblical stories. This is a resource designed for adaptation and implementation in various sized congregations to encourage an understanding of how Christian communities have been given the superpowers needed to care for all of God’s beloved creation, no matter the participant’s age. This program especially draws from theological groundings from ELCA Social Statements, emphasizing the understandings of justice through participation, solidarity, sufficiency, and sustainability.

The author of this VBS is Emma Janzen (she/her), a Wartburg Theological Seminary student in the Master of Arts in Diaconal Ministry program. She is passionate about the ways we are called to care for people, for the planet, and how to connect faith to everything we do! Emma is originally from Arizona, is a California Lutheran University graduate, and currently lives in Michigan. Emma loves the ways in which storytelling connects people of all ages to love one another and all of God’s beloved creation!
