“Climate Justice, Food, and Faith”

November 9, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 10:00 am EST

As our climate continues to heat up and the impacts of that warming grow more frequent and severe,
farmers, fisherfolk and communities around the world are increasingly challenged. Observed climate
change is already affecting food security through increasing temperatures, changing precipitation
patterns, and greater frequency of extreme weather events which have increased fivefold over the last
50 years. Food and Food systems in turn are responsible for one- third of global anthropogenic
greenhouse gas emissions.

The future of our planet is at stake. It is vital that all countries and communities fulfil their commitments towards emission reduction and climate finance urgently.

The Forum will raise awareness regarding the impact of climate change on food, food systems and
livelihoods, and regarding the impact of food and food systems on climate change. Key input will give
information regarding negotiations towards developing meaningful guidance to inform climate action
in agriculture. Theological reflections will also guide the participants towards taking personal
responsibility and advocating for policy transformation in the domains of Climate Justice and Food.
The Forum will provide a substantive session for group work to discern ways forward to effectively
address the nexus of Climate justice and food by faith communities.

The session will be moderated by Young Christian activists and entrepreneurs.
