Over 17,000 ELCA youth came to New Orleans in July of 2024 to celebrate Youth Gathering. Lutherans Restoring Creation was happy to walk alongside these participants as they pondered: how can we create a just, sustainable future?
LRC hosted four different stations that hundreds of participants engaged with: ACT, IMAGINE, ADVOCATE, and COMPOST.
ACT: We asked people to choose one or more actions to protect Creation. After they committed, many chose to get a temporary tattoo to celebrate! Click the tiles below to explore the 8 different actions that youth committed to:

IMAGINE: Inspired by our solarpunk art contest, we showed participants solarpunk art submitted to us, as well as encouraged them to imagine and create their own art.

ADVOCATE: We offered a table (hosted by ELCA Advocacy) for Youth to write a postcard to their congress people. Many wrote to advocate for the Farm Bill, Climate Solutions, and Wildlife Preservation.

COMPOST: We were blessed by the presence of Zach George, a local New Orleans farmer who brought in compost and taught about how to make composting simple and accessible to everyone. Follow the “Resurrection Story of Compost” below and hear directly from Zach in the video at the end!
