Milwaukee Synod Calls for a Creation Care Constitution

The Milwaukee synod has passed a resolution to amend the Constitution, Bylaws, and Continuing Resolutions of the ELCA to include “care for creation” as one of the purposes of the church.

ELCA Lutherans are already called in our baptismal liturgy to “care for others and the world God made” and the ELCA social statements teach that that “humans, in service to God, have special roles on behalf of the whole of creation…  we are called to care for the earth as God cares for the earth.” This resolution seeks to re-affirm these existing teachings and making them explicit in the ELCA constitution.
